Hotel Snapshot
The Cotswolds has its fair share of sprawling estates—and seemingly almost as many brick pubs with a few rooms above. But Hyll Hotel, a member of Mr & Mrs Smith, is something rarer: a boutique bolthole where country house charm and a modern mindset share equal billing. Tucked inside a restored manor house and a series of outbuildings, surrounded by 60 acres of meadow and forested hillsides where T.S. Eliot used to romp around and wrote the first of his Four Quartets back in the 1930s, when it was called Charingworth Manor, Hyll Hotel is a design-led escape where downtown defines the itinerary.
Design & Character
Hyll Hotel is the perfect combination of cozy and cool. Tucked inside a series of stone buildings, the interiors, designed by Manchester-based studio YOUTH, blend heritage and contemporary elements. A palette of warm browns and greys complements materials such as local stone, aged metal, and weathered timber. These earthy tones and the calm, uncluttered aesthetic play beautifully with historic details such as exposed beams and a cellar door dating back hundreds of years. There are little nooks to sneak away for solitude or chat with travel companions and fireside lounges to play games, get lost in a good book, or split a bottle of wine with pals.
The Rooms
Each of the 26 rooms has its own individual character and quirks. There are pint-sized spots to snooze on a solo holiday, a few dog-friendly ground-floor keys with little garden terraces, and even a handful of more generous accommodations with a seating area and soaking tub in the bathroom.
Food & Drink
One of the great pleasures of staying at Hyll Hotel is the ease of wandering over to the restaurant for a delicious meal. Much like the hotel itself, the dining room, led by chef Mark Coleman, feels grounded and locally driven—a refined, chic take on a farm-to-table pub. The Briar Hill Farm hogget with cannellini beans, salsa verde, and charred broccoli captures the culinary ethos, which celebrates ingredients sourced from farms, fisheries, and mills across the English countryside. Warm, comforting, and memorable, it’s the kind of food you’d gladly eat every day.
The well-stocked bar deserves its own spotlight, offering excellent cocktails, a great wine list, and spirits from local producers such as Hawkstone and Capreolus.
Amenities
The lounges are stocked with board games and books. Guests will find a selection of personalized reading materials through a partnership with Borzoi Books. There’s also a supper club series featuring authors and artists. Wellies and rain jackets are available for guests to borrow.
Spa & Wellness Scoop
While there’s no spa, the team will gladly arrange in-room facials and massages. Guests can unwind courtesy of guided meditations created by wellness specialist Kathryn McCusker.
